Welcome to SIGMA Clermont

SIGMA Clermont, an engineering school dedicated to people, performance and innovation

The school's DNA

SIGMA Clermont is a public engineering school, formed from the merger of IFMA (Institut Français de Mécanique Avancée) and ENSCCF (Ecole Nationale Supérieure de Chimie de Clermont-Ferrand) in 2016. Since 2021, SIGMA Clermont belongs to Clermont Auvergne INP - The engineering institute of Clermont Auvergne University, which groups together the 3 engineering schools on the Clermont science campus (ISIMA, Polytech Clermont and SIGMA Clermont), an integrated preparatory class (La Prépa des INP) and Clermont Auvergne PEPITE, the student entrepreneurship incubator.
More about Clermont Auvergne INP

It trains expert engineers in chemistry, advanced mechanics, industrial engineering, robotics, sustainable materials, process engineering, and innovative structures and systems, capable of rapidly combining their skills with the needs of companies.

The 5 fundamentals of SIGMA Clermont

SIGMA Clermont relies on 5 fundamental principles to carry out its mission of training tomorrow's responsible engineers:

  • a close connection with its industrial partners
  • a research activity at the service of innovation
  • a strong international outlook
  • the integration of human and social sciences
  • the fulfilment of students at the school

SIGMA Clermont: strong, shared and sustainable values

  • Caring: between all SIGMA Clermont students and staff, synonymous with mutual aid and solidarity.
  • Respect: respect for everyone, from students to staff, from staff to students, so that everyone feels safe and comfortable at SIGMA Clermont.
  • High standards: to train the young engineers of tomorrow by offering them a high-level education that opens them up to the world and to create and contribute to a peaceful working environment in which everyone sets an example.
  • Involvement: in the life of the school and its various projects to raise the profile of SIGMA Clermont and become fully involved as ambassadors of the school.
  • Agility: so that studying and working at SIGMA Clermont means being open-minded and adaptable.

Our networks and partners

SIGMA Clermont has a large number of partners and is involved in various networks which enable its students to benefit from academic opportunities and the school to shine at a national and international level, while strengthening its local roots.

SIGMA Clermont is committed to being a trusted partner and an active contributor to each network to which it belongs:

  • Fédération Gay-Lussac: the FGL brings together 20 chemistry schools throughout France. SIGMA Clermont also runs an integrated preparatory class on behalf of the Fédération Gay-Lussac and welcomes high-level athletes.

  • IMT - Institut Mines-Télécom: SIGMA Clermont is an affiliated school of the Institut Mines-Télécom, a public institution dedicated to higher education and research for innovation in the fields of engineering and digital technology. Based on shared interest, an annual action plan is drawn up, positioning the School's contribution within the network. This plan includes strengthened collaboration in the fields of innovation, international development and training. A strategic partnership with Mines Saint Etienne illustrates this commitment, aiming to support SMEs in their industrial transition through initiatives such as Manufacturing of the Future (M4.0).

  • Polyméca: SIGMA Clermont is a member of the Polyméca network, a thematic network of general engineering schools focusing on mechanical engineering. Being a member of the Polyméca network enables SIGMA Clermont to offer exchanges within the schools in the network, as well as working on the exchange of best practices.

Local roots and a national network

UCA: Clermont Auvergne INP is a component institution of Clermont Auvergne University.

  • VEGEPOLYS VALLEY: Vegepolys Valley brings together companies and research and training centres specialising in the plant sector to develop innovative projects aimed at boosting business competitiveness. This initiative was born of the merger, on 27 June 2019, of two well-established competitiveness clusters dating back to 2005: Céréales Vallée - Nutravita in Clermont-Ferrand, focusing on field crops, and Vegepolys in Angers, specialising in plants. SIGMA Clermont plays a key role in supporting the industrialisation of the agri-food sector, providing a high level of expertise and competitiveness. The school also contributes to the development of agricultural resources for materials.
